Although not all modes of asexual reproduction are of supraspecific taxonomic value, some modes, such as transverse division, seem to represent key innovations that warrant the establishment of new genera, i.e., within Flabellum and Dendrophyllia. solitary corals (i.e, modes IBl are reviewed inc Although almost genera are exclu asexual reproduc complete severan clonopary, sensu to be rare and u 1956). PREFACE Table 1 is a modification of Wells' (1956) discussion of asexual reproduction. It is difficult to determine and categorize the modes of asexual reproduction for all 846 valid genera of Scleractinia (Wells, 1956; Wells, 1986), the majority of which are exclusively fossil. Nonetheless, Table 1 is an attempt to list and organize the currently known modes. The term "method" refers to the four basic processes of asexual reproduction (main modes of Wells, 1956); "mode" refers to specific variation of a more general method.

Clone wars: asexual reproduction dominates in the invasive range of Tubastraea spp. (Anthozoa: Scleractinia) in the South-Atlantic Ocean

Although the invasive azooxanthellate corals Tubastraea coccinea and T. tagusensis are spreading quickly and outcompeting native species in the Atlantic Ocean, there is little information regarding the genetic structure and path of introduction for these species. Here we present the first data on genetic diversity and clonal structure from these two species using a new set of microsatellite mar...

 Structure Learning in Bayesian Networks Using Asexual Reproduction Optimization

A new structure learning approach for Bayesian networks (BNs) based on asexual reproduction optimization (ARO) is proposed in this letter. ARO can be essentially considered as an evolutionary based algorithm that mathematically models the budding mechanism of asexual reproduction. In ARO, a parent produces a bud through a reproduction operator; thereafter the parent and its bud compete to survi...

First real-time observation of transverse division in azooxanthellate scleractinian corals

Asexual reproduction is one of the most important traits in the evolutionary history of corals. No real-time observations of asexual reproduction in azooxanthellate solitary scleractinian corals have been conducted to date. Here, we describe previously unknown aspects of asexual reproduction by using Truncatoflabellum spheniscus (Family Flabellidae) based on observations of transverse division ...

Optimal operation of multiple microgrids under network reliability based on asexual reproduction algorithm

Today, the number of micro-distribution networks is increasing. Meanwhile, for various reasons that can be justified in the field of smart grids and electricity market, the optimal operation of these microgrids is of great importance. On the other hand, the existence of high-intensity accidents has been the reason for the creation of micro-networks in many countries, which shows the importance ...

Risk management of solitary and eusocial reproduction

Social insect colonies can be seen as a distinct form of biological organization because they function as superorganisms. Understanding how natural selection acts on the emergence and maintenance of these colonies remains a major question in evolutionary biology and ecology. Here, we explore this by using multi-type branching processes to calculate the basic reproductive ratios and the extincti...
